Abstract

528,499. Coillng. SLEEPER & HARTLEY, Inc. May 9, 1939, No. 13802. Convention date, Dec. 1, 1938. [Class 83 (iv)] In wire coiling machines, of the type described in Specifications 120,491, [Class 83 (iv)], and 476,370, cams for actuating the pitch and diameter control mechanism are arranged to be easily movable from the machines. The wire 22 is fed by rollers 21 past an arbor 24 and is coiled thereon by an abutment 25 and is severed by cutters on shafts 30. The pitch is controlled by a wedge tool 32 on a rod 106. The pitch control cam 81 actuates levers 87, 90 and a rod 102 operating the pitch tool. The diameter control cam 80 operates through adjustable levers a rod 128 rocking a lever 27 actuating the abutment 25. The connection between the lever 27 and the rod 128 is adjusted by screwing into the link 133. The cams 80, 81 are adjustably mounted on a hub 82 removable from a shaft 50 projecting from the machine. The cutters are selectively actuated by manually connecting the linkage from the operating cam on the shaft 50 to the appropriate cutter for right or left hand springs. To adjust the feed rolls and cutters laterally the shafts 30 separately are moved by screw means from a knob 173. The screw 103 is adjusted to disengage the follower from cam for close coil springs. U.S.A. Specification 2,151,417 also is referred to.
