Lantern fronts.-A front glass for a vehicle lamp or other light projector comprises a non- lenticular central portion 3, which may be vertical or downwardly inclined, and a non-prismatic annular portion 1 located in the main beam from a parabolic reflector 2. The two portions 1, 3 may be made integrally or separately, and they may be made of clear, coloured, or opal glass or like material, and the whole or parts of the surfaces of both portions may be rippled, etched, sandblasted, or otherwise treated so as to diffuse the light. Part of the portion 1 may be made opaque by painting it, or by covering it with, or replacing it by, a thin opaque metal shield. The portion 1 may be conical, convex, or concave, and part or the whole of its inner surface may be silvered or otherwise made reflecting. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the reflecting part 6 has a focus at the source of light. The front glass is provided with a flange 4 for securing it to the lamp casing, and this flange may be of such width as to provide a flat or curved annular portion c, Fig. 6, for the projection of a ring of parallel light. The central portion 3 may be formed with a flange 7, Fig. 6, for the removable mounting of an opaque, translucent, or coloured screen, adapted to cover a part or the whole of its surface. The outer surfaces of the annular portions 1, c may be made reflecting so as to reflect back light from the headlamps of approaching vehicles.
