Abstract

441,156. Vehicle headlamps etc.; reflectors. COUPIGNY, G. DE, Pierres par Vassy, Calvados, France. Nov. 8, 1934, No. 32175. Convention date, Nov. 8, 1933. [Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv)] In a smooth concave lamp reflector which is symmetrical about a plane containing the light source g, the plane of symmetry, as shown in Fig. 1, intersects the reflector in a curve substantially in the form of a semiparabola a b and a circular arc cd which extends from the apex a of the semi-parabola, the focus of the semi-parabola being at the light source g, and the circular arc being so disposed that the rays reflected from the extremities thereof are directed to the extremity b of the semi-parabola. The intersection of the reflector and a plane normal to the axis ef of the semi-parabola and containing the light source g is in the form of a closed figure comprising a part parabola k l m with its focus on the light source and its apex l on the circular arc cd, and a circular arc k n m, as shown in Fig. 2. Two lamps with such reflectors may be provided on a vehicle, one with the reflector opening horizontal to throw light forwardly and downwardly, and the other with the reflector opening vertical to illuminate the near side of the road.
