Seats.-A hard metallic seating ring 1 for sluices, valves and the like is secured in a recess 1<a> in a member 3 by expanding a ductile metal ring 4 to engage corrugations 2 in the ring and member 3. The member 3 is recessed so that the securing ring does not extend into the bore.
