Abstract
283,723. Ablett, C. A. Dec. 29, 1926. Clutches, friction. - The periphery of the driving-drum 10 of a contracting-band clutch is connected to its boss by centrifugal-fan blades 16, which circulate air through holes 17 in the flange 5 of the driven part 6, holes 18 in the drum 10, and holes 19 in a casing 4. In a modification, the drum periphery is connected to its boss by a solid disc, on one face of which vanes are formed, an dair is circulated axially across the band, the holes 18 being omitted. Vanes may alternatively or additionally be cast or secured on the flange 5, the functions of the driving and driven parts being then interchanged. The clutch comprises a band 1, lined with " Ferodo " &c., and anchored by an adjusting-screw 7 to the flange 5, the free end being actuated by a bell-crank lever 2 turned by an axially-moved wedge 13.
