Abstract

561,107. Friction clutches. THELANDER, W. V. May 29, 1942, No. 7322. [Class 80 (ii)] A clutch plate 5 is built up of a plurality of sections 10 connected together by rivets 31 located in portions of the sections lying between the part of the plate covered with friction material and a flange 7 on a hub member 6. The drive between the plate 5 and hub 6 is by means of helical springs 15 located in openings 12 in the flange 7 and enclosed by pockets 14 pressed out from the sections 10. Parts of the sections 10 have an easy, working fit on the periphery 9 of the flange 7 but there are clearances at 32, 33, between the sections and the flange. Thus noise and vibrations are. diminished. As shown, the sections lie on both sides of the flange 7. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown) the sections lie on one side only of the flange 7a and on the other side is an annular plate 37 having a centre bore 38 with a working fit on an annular shoulder 39 on the hub 6a. Elsewhere as at 41, 43 and 44, there is clearance between the clutch plate and the flange. The friction facings may be of annular form or in sections. Specification 524,669 is referred to.
