Blocks and shoes act ing on drums; blocks and shoes. - Brake shoes for brakes o the kind described in Specification 244,037 are made of stamped or pressed metal, the member or member comprising the shoe being so formed o connected as to pro vide a stiffening web extending a substantial diestance beyond the braking surface and being laterally displaced from the central plane to overlap the web of an adjacent shoe. The brake comprises shoes 2, 3 mounted respectively on fixed pivots 6, 5 and a shoe 1 connected to the shoe 2 by a floating pivot 4, the shoes 1, 3 being of identical construction and a cam 12 being provided to engage the shoes with the drum. Fig. 4 shows in section one construction for the shoes comprising a pair of sitampings 13, 14 in the form of channels having the web parts riveted or welded together so that a pair of the flanges form the shoe face. Figs. 9, 10 and 11 show other forms. Fig. 2 shows the manner in which the shoes 1, 2 may be connected together. Holes are punched in the web parts of the members 13, 14 so as to turn some of the metal outward to form seatings for two headed bushings 15, 16 through which passes the pivot pin 17, this pin being held in place by contacting with the backing plate of the brake. Fig. 3 shows the overlapping parts of the shoes 2, 3 adjacent the pivots 5, 6, bushings 20, 21 being provided for these pivots. Fig. 13 shows an alternative construction in which the web parts of the shoe 1 are spread apart to form a bifurcated portion to receive the web part of the shoe 2; a wedge-shaped re-inforcing member 22 being welded between the forked ends of the shoe 3 in a similar manner.
