Abstract

276,048. Hadfield, Sir R. A. May 11, 1926. Alloys.-Manganese steel containing about 11 per cent or more of manganese is substantially free from, or contains not more than about 0.065 per cent of, phosphorus. Carbon may be up to about 1.6 per cent. The steel may be made by adding low-phosphorus ferro-manganese, or a mixture of low-phosphorus and ordinary ferro-manganese, to a charge of carbon steel which has been decarburized and dephosphorized.
