Abstract

320,332. Dawson, S. E. April 4, 1928. Alloys.-Non-magnetic iron alloys containing less than 0.35 per cent of carbon and not over 2 per cent of silicon contain also 3-14 per cent of manganese and 3-12 per cent of nickel, with or without 5-15 per cent of chromium, the "manganese equivalent" in every case lying between about 12 and 16 per cent. For this purpose nickel is reckoned as half as effective as manganese and chromium as two-thirds as effective. An example consists of about 79 per cent of iron, 7 per cent each of manganese, chromium, and nickel, and 0.2 per cent of carbon. Specification 204,598 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 178,820, 232,656, 275,322, 294,464, 297,045, and 298,556.
