Abstract
271,484. Paul, O. May 18, 1926, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Measuring-tapes.-Consists of a combined level and measuring cord for finding levels, inclinations, height differences &c. The cord 3 is wound on a drum 1 mounted in a casing 2 to which is attached an arm 4 formed at its outer end as a guide for the cord. An arm 8 is attached to the casing 2 by a pivot 7 having a bore through which the cord pases, so that by turning the arm through 180‹ from the position shown the cord is wrapped round the pivot and becomes clamped. The spirit level 5 is carried by a graduated disc 12 rotatably mounted on the' casing 2. The lower surface 14 of the casing, and the surface 15 of the arm 4 are in the same plane which is horizontal when the level reads zero. A device 16 is provided for indicating the tension of the cord. The drum 1 is turned by a crank 9, and a pawl may be provided on the casing 2 to be brought into the path of the crank to prevent further unwinding of the cord.
