Abstract
265,877. Streit, M. March 15. 1926, [Convention date]. Variable-speed gearing comprises driving and driven toothed wheels 1, 12. which are moved simultaneously in changing speed with respect to an intermediate cone of toothed wheels 3 - - 6. The driving and driven shafts 2, 11 turn in fixed bearings, and the bearings of the cone shaft. 10 slide in slots 18, 19. Parallelism of the cone's axis is maintained by a pinion 20 at each end rolling on a rack 20<1>. Between the gear steps 3 - - 6 of the cone are eccentric toothed wheels 7, 8, 9, which transfer the wheels 1, 12 from one step to another with a movement at each half revolution. The control comprises an intermediately pivoted actuating lever 14 engaging sleeves 16, 17 secured to the wheels 1, 12', respectively, and sliding with them. Fast on the shaft 10 are a pair of discs 28, 29, Figs. 5 and 6, with gaps 30 at diametrically opposite points. Arms 22, 23, 24 on the sleeve 16 and 25, 26, 27 on the sleeve 17 coact with these discs and slip through the gaps at the proper times as the lever 14 traverses the wheels 1, 12 stepwise in opposite directions.
