Abstract

255,564. Jassawalla, K. S. April 30, 1925. Propelling, steering, and manoeuvring by endless-band propellers.-An endless-band propeller comprises a paddle box with two longitudinal walls each carrying a guide rail, the inner wall being attached to the side of the vessel, and a chain-band with paddles having projections situated on the side edges between the hinged and free edges. The housing has two longitudinal walls of which the inner wall c, Fig. 1, is secured to the side of the ship and both walls have guide rails f. Two hexagonal drums h carry the link belt l to which are pivoted at r a series of paddles p having projections q, Fig. 4, adapted to contact with the guide rails for maintaining them in operative position. The shaft i passes through a stuffing box into the ship and is driven by a suitable power plant. Multiple sets may be fitted to the hull, and controlled to provide for manoeuvring.
