Abstract

Propelling by endless-band propellers. -Boats, ships and hydroplanes are supported clear of the water by an endless chain of hollow boxes and the boxes may have projecting paddles for assisting propulsion or for causing water currents to drive the chain of boxes. Octagonal drums b on axes a support boxes c which are pivotally connected and have rollers g adapted to run on rails r. Propelling vanes d may be attached to the boxes. The axles a may be driven by an engine and propulsion may be effected by sails, or by water or airscrews. The boxes mav be constructed of wood, iron, copper, zinc, leather, india-rubber or waterproof fabrics and may be filled with air, light gas, or material.
