Abstract

254,654. Hancock, L. J. March 26, 1926. Perforating and dividing by fusion. -A portable machine for flame-cutting metal is provided with an electric motor driving magnetized travelling wheels through differential gearing. The machine frame 1 carries the blowpipe 5 and is furnished with a castor wheel 3 and with a pair of travelling wheels 2 which form the poles of a magnet energized by a coil 21, so that the machine may adhere to the work in vertical or inverted positions. The wheels 2 are connected by gearing 19, 18, to a differential gearbox 16 which is driven by worm gear from a shaft 13 connected to bevel gear 12, 11, exchangeable spur gears 10, 9, and worm gears 8, 7 to an electric motor 6, the spindle of which is provided with an adjustable governor 20. The motor is clamped to the frame by a strap. The machine may be directed by a handle 22 or by engaging with a straight edge or steel templet, or may be provided with a radius bar with a magnetic centre for cutting circles. The differential gear may be locked for making straight cuts. Several pairs of magnetized wheels may be used, some of which may be idle wheels. A lifting handle 23 may also be provided. The centre of the machine may be provided with a cover.
