[Class 83 (iv).] A burner cutting or welding machine with longitudinal and transverse carriages, means for cutting or welding to template or drawing and preferably also with circular cutting means has the tracer head fitted to one end of a girder or carrier which is rigidly or releasably connected at its other end to the transverse carriage which travels on a cantilever arm on the longitudinal carriage and carries the burner, the longitudinal and transverse carriages and the circular guide being operated either by a motor or by a hand driven crank through disengageable clutches or the like. The longitudinal carriage 1 which has rollers 2 for running on rails b, is provided with a cantilever arm 3 for guiding the transverse carriage 4. The burner 41 is carried by a circular guide 40 from a shaft 31 connected by spur and bevel gear 29, 28, 27 to a splined shaft 26, the shaft 31 being vertically adjustable by a hand wheel 6 through worm gear and a pinion 9 and rack 10. The transverse carriage is connected to its operating shaft 23 by a releasable nut 24. Gears 13, 14, 15 and 25, 18, 19 are mounted on the shafts 26, 23 and the shaft of the running rollers, the gears 13-15 being connected by gear 12 to a hand crank 5 and the gear 18 being connected by bevel gear 17 to a motor. Clutches 11, 20, 21 may be operated respectively for hand or motor operated longitudinal cuts, transverse cuts or circular cuts. In order to provide for cutting or welding to template or drawing, the transverse carriage is connected by a girder 37 to a tracer head 36 for engaging a template or to a head for co-operating with a drawing, the head being actuated by a shaft 34 axially movable with the transverse carriage. The tracer head is operated by clutching to the shaft 34 a gear meshing with the gear 18.
