Settings; flues, external.-The firebrick lining of the usual firebrick settings of boilers &c. having external flues traversed by heated gases is replaced by thin sheets of metal D which are lagged with heat-insulating material. Gas-tight joints may be maintained between the boiler shell, plates D, and bearers F by asbestos packing m, n. Tn a modification, the joints are maintained gas-tight by angles secured to the shell, plates, and bearers.
