Abstract

Device for a carding machine located between a doffer 5 and two nip rolls 7, 8, in which there is a stationary element 17 located below the stripper 6. The upper surface of the element faces the stripper with one upstream region associated with the nip between the doffer and stripper rolls, and one downstream region, preferably with a comb-like section, associated with the nip between the nip rolls. At least part of the upper surface 19 of the element has openings (which may be between the teeth of the comb element) to allow an air flow. The element is in the form of a supporting and guiding body, to guide the fibre web between the region associated with the nip between the stripper and doffer rollers and the region associated with the nip between the nip rollers.

Description

Device on a carding machine for cotton, synthetic fibres and the like, arranged between a doffer and two nip rolls The invention relates to a device on a carding machine for cotton, synthetic fibres and the like, arranged between a doffer and two nip rolls, in which there is provided below the stripper roll a stationary supporting and guiding element.
In a known apparatus, the upper surface of the supporting and guiding element faces a region of the stripper roll. One end region of the supporting and guiding element is associated with the nip in the region between the doffer and the stripper roll. The other end region is arranged in the region between the stripper roll and the nip rolls and is oriented in the direction towards the nip botween the nip rolls. A fibro wob passes ovor the upper surface and then through an open space as far as the nip between the nip rolls.
A known device (DE 43 28 431 A) is in practice in operational use in large numbers without problems and has become widespread. At a delivery speed of up to about 330 in/mm, a profile closed in the form of a supporting and guiding body is used. The upper top surface facing the stripper roll is closed and impermeable to air. At elevated delivery speeds and also if the working width is relatively large, disruptive air currents can act on the sensitive fibre web.
It is an aim of the invention to provide a device of the kind described at the beginning which avoids or mitigates the mentioned disadvantages and which, in particular, provides a simple way of improving guidance of the fibre web, especially in the case of a relatively large working width and/or an elevated delivery speed.
The invention provides a device on a carding machine comprising, arranged between a doffer and two nip rolls, a stripper roll and, provided below the stripper roll, a stationary supporting and guiding element the upper surface of which faces a part of the stripper roll, the supporting and guiding element comprising an upstream region extending towards the nip between the doffer and the stripper roll and a downstream region extending towards the nip between the nip rolls, the arrangement being such that in use a fibre web passes over the upper surface and then through an open space to the nip between the nip rolls, wherein the supporting and guiding element has an element facing the stripper roll, the surface of at least part of which element has openings allowing the passago of air.
As a result of the measures taken according to the invention, the outlet opening for the entrained air is enlarged without the controlled guidance of the fibre web being adversely affected. The web guide profile is preferably in the form of a comb, the "teeth" of the comb pointing in the direction of flow of the material. The comb is preferably electrolytically polished in order to rule out adhesion of fibres.
Advantageously the element forms the upper surface of the supporting and guiding element. Advantageously, the upper surface facing the stripper roll is in the form of an air-permeable partition wall. Preferably, the partition wall has narrow slots, the long sides of which are oriented in the running direction of the web. In certain preferred embodiments, the slots are open in the end region facing the nip rolls. Preferably, a slot is in each case simultaneously adjacent to a tooth, a needle, a rib or the like. In some embodiments, the upper surface of the supporting and guiding element is in the form of a comb.
For example, the element may be in the form of a comb.
Where present, the comb may consist of a planar element, for example a metal sheet or the like, on which teeth are mounued. Preferably, the teeth of the comb point in the direction of flow of the fibre material (working direction) . Advantageously, the comb is electrolytically polished. Advantageously, a holding element for the comb is arranged in the end region facing the doffer.
Advantageously, the holding element has a curved shoulder.
In some preferred arrangements, the element has an upper surface facing the stripper roll and a rear surface facing the doffer. Advantageously, the element is open on the side facing the nip rolls. Advantageously, tho comb is mounued on the holding element. Preferably, the holding element is an extruded aluminium profile.
The invention further provides a device on a carding machine for cotton, synthetic fibres and the like, arranged between a doffer and two nip rolls, in which there is provided below the stripper roll a stationary supporting and guiding element the upper surface of which faces a region of the stripper roll and one end region of which is associated with the nip in the region between the doffer and the stripper roll and the other end region of which is arranged in the region between the stripper roll and The nip rolls and is oriented in the direction towards the nip between the nip rolls, wherein a fibre web passes over the upper surface and then through a free space as far as the nip between the nip rolls, wherein the supporting and guiding element has an element facing the stripper roll, the surface of at least part of which element has openings allowing the passage of air.
One illustrative embodiment of the invention will be desoribed in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a side view, shown in diagrammatic form, of a device according to the invention on a carding machine; Fig. 2 is a side view, on an enlarged scale, of the supporting and guiding body according to the invention in according to with Fig. 1, having a comb element; Fig. 3 is a plan view of the comb element according to Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the comb element mounted on a holding element.
With reference to Figure 1, a carding machine, for example a flat card TO made by TrUtzschler GmbH & Co.KG of Manchengladbach, Germany, has, a feed roll 1, feed table 2, lickers-in 3a, 3b, 3c, cylinder 4, doffer 5, stripper roll 6, nip rolls 7, 8, web guide element 9, web funnel 10, delivery rolls 11, 12, revolving flat top 13 with flat guide rollers 13a, 13b and flat bars 14, can 15 and coiler 16. Reference letter M denotes the centre point (axis) of the cylinder 4. Reference numeral 4a denotes the clothing and reference numeral 4b denotes the direction of rotation of the cylinder 4. Arrow A denotes the working direction.
The curved arrows drawn inside the rolls indicate the directions of rotation of the rolls. Reference numeral 17 denotes the supporting and guiding element according to the invention. The supporting and guiding element 17 according to the invention is arranged below the stripper roll 6. The upper nip roll 7 is arranged closely adjacent to the stripper roll 6. The lower nip roll 8 is in essence associated with the supporting and guiding element 17.
As shown in Fig. 2, the supporting and guiding element 17 has in essence an approximately triangular cross-section. The element 17 is mounted by its one end in an end-face end piece l8a and by its other end in an end-face end piece lBb (see Fig. 4) . The element 17 consists of two parts, a comb element 19 and a holding element 20 for thc comb element 19. Thc comb elcmcnt 19 is arrangccl below the stripper roll 6 and forms the upper surface of the supporting and guiding element 17. The upper surface is cleaned, for example of trash, by the fibre material passing over it.
The upper surface 19' (see Fig. 3) of the comb element 19 faces the clothing (not shown) of the stripper roll 6. An upstream end region 19' of the comb element 19 is associated with the nip between the doffer 5 and the stripper roll 6. A downstream end region 19''' is arranged in the region between the stripper roll 6 and the nip rolls 7, 8, the upstream region 19''' being oriented in the direction towards the nip between the nip rolls 7, 8.
The holding element 20 is an extruded profile, for example made of aluminium.
Referring to Fig. 3, the length 1 of the comb element 19 is, for example, 1300mm or more. The comb element 19 extends over the entire length of the stripper roll 6 and of the nip rolls 7, 8 (that is to say over the entire width of the carding machine) . In its front (downstream) region 19''' it has teeth 19a to iOn that are free at one end, there being located between each two adjacent teeth 19a to iOn narrow slots 20a to 20n which are open at one end. The free ends of the teeth 19a to 19n and of the slots 20a to 20n point in the running direction of the fibre material. Air passes through the slots 20a to 20n, and as a result disruptive air currents are at least partly eliminated. The comb element 19 is advantageously electrolytically polished in order to avoid adhesion of fibres.
With reference to Fig. 4, the comb element 19 is attached to the holding element 20, the comb element 19 and tho holding element 20 bcing mountcd on the end picccs 18a and 18b attached to the end faces (only 18b is shown in Fig. 4; 18a is shown in Fig. 2) The device according to the invention has the special advantage that on the one hand the front region -seen in the working direction A -of the upper surface of the supporting and guiding element 17 extends as far as a point close to the nip between the nip rolls 7, 8 and on the other hand disruptive air currents are diverted downwards from the space between the nip rolls 7, 8 and the stripper roll 6, that is to say through the space between the supporting and guiding element 17 and the lower nip roll 8. That lower space can be in communication with an extraction device.
