Abstract

246,873. Calning, S. Jan. 30, 1925, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Stencils and stencilling. - The stencil in one form consists of an endless band 1 which is supported on rollers 2 - - 4 and is made of material such as soft leather, linoleum, indiarubber, paper or sheet metal 7, Fig. 1, on one or both faces of which is secured by soldering or otherwise a wire-gauze backing 8, the material being subsequently cut out to the required design. Fabric &c. 5 to be decorated is advanced by means of a drum 6 on which is a band 14, Fig. 4, or is arranged on a table 18, Fig. 7, or on a convex support. Ink is supplied by a spraying-device 9 or inking-rollers, brushes, &c. arranged within the band 1. Registration is secured by providing apertures 13 in borders 12 on the stencils and corresponding projections on the band 14. In Fig. 7, the stencil 1 is moved bodily over the fabric, the apertures 13 engaging with teeth (;n racks 19 at the sides. When the fabric is arranged on a convex support, the stencil is stretched on a frame and is pressed against the fabric. The apparatus may be arranged for printing in two or more colours.
