Abstract

242,487. Hack, E. B., and Hurt, E. J. Feb. 6, 1925. Rotary containers.-Finely crushed granites and stones are first dried and then freed from dust and flaky materials by being passed through a pair of tubular containers in the first of which they encounter a current of hot air or gases and in the second a current of cool air. The containers a, b, Fig. 1, are arranged in the same vertical plane and inclined in opposite directions to the horizontal. The material fed from a hopper h is lifted and dropped in its passage through the containers by paddles g. Hot air &c. is forced from a pipe i and exhausts by the pipe a'. The material from the container a collects in the chamber c and is fed centrally into the container b where it is subjected to a current of cold air induced by a fan j whereby the fine ingredients are separated. The containers are supported on rollers e and rotated by any suitable mechanism, and may be arranged in series either with their axes parallel or inclined to each when viewed in plan.
