Abstract

240,771. Ringelhan, G. June 26, 1925. Padlocks; lock mechanism.-The tumblers 13, 14 of a padlock are pivoted in a shell 9 which carries the lock bolt 10, and is displaced in the casing against the action of a spring 6 by a key 20. Projections 24 on the key press against projections 17, 19 on the tumblers 13 to withdraw them from engagement with fixed pieces 8 and the end of the key withdraws an additional tumbler 14 and slides back the shell so that the bolt 10 disengages the shackle 3. A spring 5 holds the bolt withdrawn till depressed by the shackle on closing, and the key cannot be withdrawn till the bolt is shot. The tumblers, preferably four in number, are chosen from a set of ten whose projections 17, 19 are situated at different distances from the pivoted end 16, and which are numbered 0-9, the numbers of the tumblers employed being also impressed on the key to identify the latter.
