Siphons. - Apparatus for withdrawing liquid such as milk from containers a comprises tubes b permanently subjected at their lower ends to decreased pressure and surrounded by bells c in communication with the containers, valves e being provided to close either the tubes b or air vents d in the bells. As shown, the mouths of the tubes b lie above the normal level of the Liquid and the tubes of several containers e lead - into a common chamber g connected to an exhaust pump so that, when a cam i on a rotating disc &c. h raises one of the valves e, the suction raises the level of the liquid above the tube b and the container is emptied. The mouths of the tubes b may be disposed below the normal level of the liquid.
