Vacuum apparatus. - Suction apparatus for raising liquids, such as fuel, comprises an outer chamber 1 and an inner chamber 4, the latter being connected to a source of liquid by a pipe 9, and to a source of suction by a. device 24 which is described in Specification 323,045. As the liquid rises in the chamber 4 it lifts a float 16 - 18 and opens, through a lever 19 and rod 20, a small valve 13 closing a port in a large valve 12. The opening of the valve 13 reduces the vacuum in the chamber 4 and facilitates the opening of the valve 12 by the float to allow the liquid to pass from the chamber 4 to the chamber 1. A conduit 23 extending from the outer to the inner chamber effects equalization of pressures in the two chambers when the valve 12 is open. Specification 112,968 also is referred to.
