Stuffing - boxes, substitutes for; packing, metallic. - Packing comprises an assemblage of rings d with recessed faces forming expansion grooves between the rings. Each ring has a spherical face and a concave conical face, the conical face of each ring forming a seating for the spherical face of the adjacent ring. The packing is contained between end rings e, f, having a conical and a spherical face respectively, and is pressed axially by a spring g or otherwise. The inner peripheries of the flanges d<1> may be grooved.
