Latches, sliding.- The latch c of a spring- pressed sliding latch fastening and its operating lever u are retained on the front plate a by guide elements d, q integral with or secured to the front plate. The guide element q has a rib r pressed up therefrom to contact the lever and prevent rattling, or in place of the rib a flat spring may be used. A stop f pressed up from the front plate limits the backward movement of the latch. The latch carries a saddle piece with a turned-up curved end m on which the operating lever acts, and has grooves i, opening towards the cover plate, into which hard grease may be packed to lubricate the bearing surfaces of the latch and cover plate. The spring n of the latch bears against a turnedup ear g on the latch. The latch may also be operated by a key-turned lever 5 in a housing t on the cover plate.
