Stuffing-boxes, substitutes for; boxes; glands. -In packing of the type in which a ring C, having a spherical and a radial bearing surface, is interposed between a stationary part and a stuffing-box B rotating with the shaft, the ring C and the stuffing-box gland b<1> are independently adjustable. The gland b<1> is formed with diametrically opposite lugs b<2>, adjusted by bolts b<3> while the pressure on the ring C is maintained by springs a<2>, housed in a ring a secured to the shaft, and adjustable by studs a<3>. The packing is associated with a bush d<3> having internal grooves and a tapeted end d<4>. Either the shaft or the casing may revolve.
