Abstract

217,931. Kucsera, M. June 22, 1923, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Regulating. - The engine shown in Fig. 1, when working with super-compression, exhausts through the port b<1> and valve m, and at the same time receives air from the crank chamber through the valve g and passage k. The residual products are expelled through a valve t in the cylinder head on the up-stroke, and on the next down-stroke, a new charge is drawn in through another valve in the cylinder head or through a common water-cooled rotary admission and exhaust valve; at the end of the suction stroke a second air-charge enters the cylinder from the crank case, the valve m remaining closed, the double charge being compressed on the next up-stroke. By fixing the valve g so that the crank chamber is always open to the atmosphere through the pipe z, and by keeping the valve m closed, the engine will work on a four-stroke cycle without super-compression and scavenging, and by doing away with the admission valve in the cylinder head and providing two valve-controlled transfer passages from the crank chamber, one of which is fed with fuel, the engine will work with super-compression. To work the engine on a twostroke cycle, the valves in the cylinder head are kept closed and the valve m open, liquid fuel in this case being drawn into the transfer pipe k by the rush of air past a nozzle h ; a a non-return valve j is provided. The valves m, t of this engine can be worked by an eccentric l.
