Abstract
To obtain an effective drainage means for incorporation in the structure of plaster- or tile-covered floors, terraces or balconies, a film-like plastics material panel is proposed having deep-drawn stamped-out portions (31), wherein slots (33) or perforations, preferably in the region of the stamped-out portions (31), are distributed over the surface of the panel and permit water to pass therethrough. Such a panel is installed between the insulating layer and the bed or layer of mortar. The water emerging from the mortar may flow out in an unhindered manner through the channels between the stamped-out portions and the insulating layer in the thus formed channels. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
A film-like plastics material panel
In order to cover terraces, balconies or the like with a plaster finish or with a layer of laminated material, such as tiles, it is common practice to cover the concrete base with a water-resistant insulating layer. A bed of mortar or the bed of plaster is applied to this insulating layer, and the tiles may possibly be already laid in said bed.
Moisture enters the bed of mortar through the gaps between the tiles, and it is necessary to conduct such moisture outwardly through the insulating layer which has been laid at a suitably inclined angle. It is apparent, however, that some of this moisture remains in the bed of mortar and that this moisture cannot be adequately discharged outwardly, with the possible result that frost damage or blistering may occur. It has already been proposed, therefore, to apply a layer of gravel between the insulating layer and the bed of mortar. However, mortar may also penetrate into this layer of gravel which, in any case, requires additional structural height, so that the drainage effect of such a layer of gravel is thus only limited.
The present invention seeks to provide a more effective drainage means for incorporation in the structure of plaster- or tile-covered floors, terraces, balconies or the like.
The object of the invention is achieved with a film-like plastics material panel having stampedout portions recessed at one side, wherein slots or perforations, preferably in the region of the stamped-out portions, are distributed over the surface of the panel and permit water to pass therethrough.
Such an adequate, pressure-resistant drainage panel is laid directly on the insulating layer, its deep-drawn stamped-out portions being upright elements. The mortar is then applied to the plastics material panel; it enters the recesses and thus binds the panel; once hardened, the mortar forms stilt-like upright elements. The water emerging from the mortar, or the moisture, respectively, passes downwardly through the slots or perforations and may flow away freely along the insulating layer in the channels provided between the stamped-out portions.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, such a film-like plastics material panel is proposed, wherein stamped-out portions have flat undersides which extend in a common plane parallel to the plane of the panel. In such a case, the total area formed by the flat surfaces of the undersides of the stamped-out portions should be equivalent to at least 20% of the total area of the plastics material panel, whereby the individual flat undersides of the stamped-out portions should each have an area of at least 4 cm2. Thus, the stamped-out portions are preferably provided at uniform screen line distances relative to one another. Due to such stamped-out portions, the pressure per unit of area on the relatively soft insulating layer does not cause any damage, nor too deep a penetration of the stamped-out portions.
The invention also proposes to taper the stamped-out portions from the panel towards the underside, preferably in the form of pyramids or truncated cones. The stamped-out portions, which are preferably disposed at uniform raster spacings, have, therefore, an identical all-round spacing from one another. This produces clearly defined channels between the stamped-out portions and the insulating layer disposed therebeneath.
According to an additional proposal of the invention, a plastics material panel is provided, wherein the intermediate surfaces between the recesses -- forming the stamped-out portions each extend inclinedly relative to the recesses, and are preferably convex in shape. This feature causes the water emerging from the mortar to always flow in the direction of the recesses.
In such a case, the slots or perforations are preferably provided in the lateral walls of the stamped-out portions. Thus, the slots may be Ushaped. In this arrangement, they open slightly under the pressure of the mortar.
The plastics material panels according to the invention are drainage devices which are economical to manufacture and are easy to lay beneath the superstructures of plaster- or tilecovered floors, terraces, balconies or the like.
Film-like plastics material panels having deepdrawn stamped-out portions relative to one another are known as means for protecting soilcovered foundation walls. These waterimpermeable plastics material panels are, in such a case, installed or mounted vertically on the foundation walls. They prevent compressed water from the soil passing directly to the masonry.
The present invention will be further illustrated, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a schematic cross-sectional view showing the structure of a tile-covered balcony in the front edge region;
Fig. 2 is a plan view showing a portion of a plastics material panel according to the invention having a plurality of stamped-out portions, but, to clarify the basic principle, only one of these stamped-out portions is shown in full in the drawings; and
Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view of a panel shown in Fig. 2.
The concrete slab 1 of the balcony or the like is covered by a water-resistant insulating layer 2. A sufficiently pressure-resistant, film-like plastics material panel 3 is loosely laid on this insulating layer as a drainage means, and then the bed or layer of mortar 4 is applied to the plastics material panel. Ceramic panels or tiles 6 are deposited from above into this bed of mortar.
As illsutrated in Fig. 1, the front region of the bed of mortar is covered by a separating edge rail 5. To drain away the emergent moisture, a gap 7 is formed between this rail 5 and the concrete floor 1.
The film-like plastics material panel 3 serves as a drainage means and is adequately resistant to bending and pressure, especially due to the deepdrawn stamped-out portions 31 which are disposed on one side of the panel 3 and serve as upright elements. When placed upon the insulating layer 2, these stamped-out portions 31 define exact guide channels 8 for the water passing therethrough, since the hardened mortar forms stilt-like elements in the stamped-out portions 31.
In this embodiment, the stamped-out portions are in the form of truncated cones. Their undersides 34 extend in a common plane parallel to the plane of the panel. The indermediate surfaces between the recesses -- forming the stamped-out portions 31 - are slightly convex.
The total area of the flat surfaces of the undersides 34 of the stamped-out portions 31 should be equivalent to at least 20% of the total area of the plastics material panel. The area of the underside 34 of one stamped-out portion is preferably at least 4 cm2. So as to avoid excessive surface pressures acting on the insulating layer.
U-shaped slots 33 are provided in the inclined lateral walls 32 of the stamped-out portions, and the moisture emerging from the bed of mortar 4 can flow away through said slots 33 downwardly into the channels 8 along the insulating layer 2 in the direction of the gap 7. Basically speaking, perforations or slots may be uniformly distributed over the entire surface of the panel.
