Abstract

210,933. Blakeborough, R. A., and Reed, G. H. Dec. 19, 1922. Operating doors hydraulically and by toothed-gear mechanism and by weights; checks.-A bulkhead door, normally operated by hydraulic pressure, is arranged to be maintained automatically in the opened position by the engagement of friction surfaces should the pressure in the hydraulic system fail. For this purpose, a lever a pivotallv mounted at b is connected to a friction member c slidable on a key d of a shaft e operatively connected as by bevel gear to the bulkhead door. The free end of the lever is acted upon by an adjustable spring g, but the pressure is overcome normally by the hydraulic pressure of the system acting through a piston i. Should the fluid pressure fail, the spring g moves the lever a and forces the member c into engagement with a fixed friction member f on, say, the adjoining bulkhead. The door is thus prevented from closing under its own weight and operating the door operating-gear backwardly. The door can be released locally by a screwed rod k or from a distance by a connection j.
