Abstract

207,607. Marks, E. C. R., (Corona Typewriter Co., Inc.). Aug 29, 1922. Platen-roller couplings.-A coupling for the platen roller and line-spacing wheel of a typewriter, comprises two diametrically-opposite gripping-devices adapted on moving the finger-wheel of the platen roller, to exert radially inward pressure on the periphery of a drum secured to the line-spacing wheel. In the coupling shown .in the Figure, the line-spacing wheel k is secured to a drum h revoluble in a frame-plate C, and a tube d secured to the platen roller a and having studs u entering a groove in the drum. The finger-wheel m is secured to a longitudinallymovable sleeve l formed with a tapered end engaging two spring-levers l formed with a tapered end engaging two spring-levers i having tongues q engaging a flange h<1> on the drum, the tongues gripping the flange when the finger-wheel is pushed inwards. The levers rock on the parts r, and are preferably formed with forked tongues for engaging the drum. The tapered end of the sleeve is preferably formed with obtuse parts l<11> and acute parts l<1>. The levers are seated in the ends v of an aperture in the tube d, and the sleeve is formed with a flat engaging a flat at one side of the aperture. The sleeve is retained frictionally in the inner or outer position.
