Reversible locks and latches.-The fore-end plate of a reversible rim lock is slidably mounted on a fixed end plate and protrudes at one side of the casing for attaching to the edge of the door. The casing A has a fixed fore-end plate a attached by the tongues a', d' on the casing A and cover-plate respectively. In the form shown, the tongues a', d<1> space the fixed plate a from the end of the casing so that a plate D can slide between the casing-end and the fixed plate a. The plate D may be moved by hand to protrude at the back or front of the casing A, as shown in Fig. 1, so that screws may be inserted through the corner holes into the edge of the door to help to secure the lock. Holes d allow the lock- and latch-bolts to pass through the plate D in either of its positions, and also from guide-slots for the plate when it is slid into position. The tongue a<1>, d' act as stops to limit the motion of the plate. In a modification, the plate D may be arranged to slide over the outer face cf the fixed plate a. The latch bolt C has an inner yoked part c carrying the tail c<1> of the latch head. To reverse the latch it is pulled outwards against its spring c' to bring the circular part c<4> into the rectangular hole in the end plate turned through 180‹, and released.
