Abstract
390,270. Cigarette-making machines. MOLINS, D. W., Longwood, Hurst Road, Bexley, Kent. Dec. 23, 1931, No. 35564. [Class 130.] For conditioning cigarettes during their manufacture and packing by machinery, they are passed through a heated or other drying atmosphere in an enclosed chamber, and may be passed subsequently through a cooling atmosphere. In the apparatus shown, the cigarettes 7 are conveyed through an oven 8 provided with heating elements 13, and then through a cooling chamber 19 to which air is supplied through a pipe 30 by a fan (not shown). Cigarettes are delivered by deflectors 4 from the delivery belt of the cigarette-making machine to conveyers 6 provided with side guides 10, the conveyers 6 and guides 10 consisting of endless spring bands. The cigarettes are delivered into the oven past a grooved roller 11 rotating counterclockwise and passing one cigarette at a time. Staggered conveyers 12, 14, &c. are provided in the oven and the cooling chamber, so that the cigarettes fall from each conveyer in turn to the one below. The cigarettes are delivered on to a bracket 22, from which they are taken by carriers 23 on an upwardly moving conveyer 24 and are delivered by an ejector 25 on to a final conveyer 27, from which they may be removed by an operator, or on to a conveyer which leads them to a packing machine. The conveyers are driven continuously when the cigarette machine is temporarily stopped, so that the cigarettes do not remain in the oven and get over-dried.
