Abstract

Reducing valves.-A pressure-reducing valve of the type actuated by a differential piston arranged axially of the line of flow has the piston adapted to work in a cylindrical member 2<1> depending from a cover 2 of an enlarged part of the casing so as to form an annular water-way 3 about such cylindrical member. The inlet passage I<4> is contracted at I<2> to form a set I' for the valve member 4<3> which is carried by a differential piston provided with packings 5 arranged to work in liners 2<2>, 3<3>. The cover 2 is formed with a chamber 8 communicating with the inlet or atmosphere through a valve-controlled connection 14 and with the annular chamber 9 between the pistons through a passage 10 controlled by a needle valve 11. By admitting inlet pressure to the chamber 9, the valve may be held permanently open and by admitting liquid to the chamber 8 and then connecting it to atmosphere the opening and closing movements may be retarded.
