Abstract

201,604. Haywood, F., McLeod, G. D., and Haywood, F. C. Jan. 12, 1923. Floors, cleaning. - A machine for waxing and polishing floors comprises a carriage 1 supported on three wheels and carrying a bearing 5 for a short shaft 6 connected by a flexible coupling 15 with another shaft 13 working in a tube 12 supported on the carriage by three stays 11. At the upper end of the shaft 13 is fixed a pinion 14 gearing with a wheel 16 turned by a handle 17, or the shaft may be driven by an electric motor. The bearing 5 is downwardly extended to take a shaft 7 fixed to a brush 9, the ends of the shafts 6 and 7 being detachably interlocked. For distributing wax a worm 24 is fixed to the bearing 5, and a receptacle 22 with a removable cover 23 is fixed to the brush so that as the receptacle revolves the wax is expressed on to the floor through a hole 27. The machine is guided over the floor by a handle 18 fixed to the tube 12. For polishing, the brush is replaced by a pad consisting of a felt-covered disc over which a duster may be clipped.
