Abstract

200,249. Knight, A. April 24, 1922. Cleaning iittei,na,lly, rotary appliances for.-.k cleaning tool for boiler &c. tubes comprises a cylindrical forward portion having a series of longitudinal cutting blades a and a rear portion having a series of annular cutting-ribs b. The blades a and ribs b may be helically arranged with grooves in staggered formation in the ribs, and with single or double cutting edges. The tool may be in one piece or formed as a sleeve to fit. over the holder, or, according to the Provisional Specification, it may also be in two parts screwed together: the blades and ribs are renewable when worn. The tool is formed with a forward portion d of reduced diameter to enable it to pass into the ferrule by which the tube is secured to the tube plate, and this portion also may be provided with longitudinally arranged cleaning blades. The blades a may be slightly tapered to act gradually and a similar portion to the forward portion, but provided with blades helically arranged in the opposite direction, may be added to or formed in the rear of the portion b to form a reversible tool, having screwed sockets at both ends for coupling to the rotary cleaning shaft.
