188,991. Goold, L. W., (Reed, A., and Koch, W. A.). Dec. 15,1921. Reamers. - The body of a reamer is tapered at 1 and has reduced end portions 2, 3. On it is mounted a sleeve 9 which is slotted at 10, 11 alternately from the two ends, and can be moved along the tapered part of the mandrel by a nut 12 to expand it to fit the hole to be reamered. The mandrel is slotted to receive one or more cutters 5 which project though the slots in the sleeve. The bottoms of the slots in the mandrel are inclined to the axis and the backs of the cutters are inclined to correspond so that when the cutters are moved axially by a nut 7 the cutting edges are moved radially.
