Abstract
408,116. De-scaling-tools. THOMPSON, G. H., 947, Bristol Road, Birmingham. June 29, 1933, No. 18485. [Class 99 (ii).] A centrifugal tool for de-scaling condenser &c. tubes comprises cutters a, b, Fig. 2, which are mounted on spindles c secured in bosses j, n at the free ends of a pair of levers e, f of unequal length which cross each other and are pivoted on a transverse pin h in a rotatable housing g. The other ends of the levers extend into the housing and are oppositely tapered to receive the tapered nose p of a hollow plunger which is acted upon by a spring r, adjustable by a plug s screwing into the housing, to assist in urging the free ends of the levers apart and into contact with the inner surface of the tube to be scaled. The levers are arranged with their axes substantially parallel but on opposite sides of the centre line of the tool, and the lever f is of crescent-section at m to accommodate the boss j and cutter a of the lever e. The cutter a may be provided with longitudinal flutes, Fig. 1, and the cutter b with both longitudinal and circumferential flutes. In a modified tool for use with soft scale &c., Fig. 4, the cutters are replaced by a non-rotatable wire brush t and a guiding roller u or a second brush.
