Abstract

200,116. Sutcliffe, B. Aug. 31, 1922. Actuating by steam, air, and gas pressure; pumps for corrosive liguids. - In a pump for acids &c. the pressure behind the pump piston &c. 4 is always greater than that in front so that liquid cannot leak past the piston. The piston is connected by a rod 6 to a piston 5, and a rotary valve 7 admits pressure fluid to the upper side of the piston 4 during the delivery stroke and to the under side of the piston 5 during the suction stroke. The valve is operated at the ends of the strokes by a tappet 11 which opens valves 12, 13 to admit pressure fluid to one or other ends of a cylinder 10 containing a piston 9 connected to the valve.
