Abstract

197,465. Rees, E. S. G. March 8, 1922. Fire-screens; air-heating fittings.-A combined fire-screen and air heater, which may be fixed to the grate cr formed as a separate unit adapted to stand on the floor in front of the fire, comprises a series of spaced vertical troughs C, open towards the fire A and having tubular upward extensions C<1> which open at their upper ends into the the room. A hood D projects inwardly towards the fire from the base of the tubular members C<1>. In operation, a part of the radiant heat is absorbed by the troughs C the upward extensions C' of which promote an upward flow of heated air which is directed into the room. To increase the heating surface of the troughs C they are formed with multiple walls as shown in Fig. 5, or fitted with fire-clay heat-absorbers C‹, Fig. 6. A modification is described in which the troughs C are formed from a corrugated metal sheet slotted at its lower part, the tubular extensions being formed by a plate secured across the upper portion of the corrugated sheet.
