Abstract

454,328. Gas-heated radiator stoves. GAS LIGHT & COKE CO., DIETERICHS, W., ANDREW, L. W., and VOICE, E. W., 84, Horseferry Road, Westminster. April 23,1935, No. 12179. [Class 126] A gas heater comprises in combination a chamber through which the hot gases from one or more burners pass, the cross-sectional area of the chamber at right angles to the direction of flow diminishing from the inlet to the outlet zones, a heat-radiating wall in said chamber in contact on the inner side with the gases and on the outer side with the atmosphere, and means for heat-insulating or jacketing other parts of the chamber in direct contact with the gases. Fig. 1 shows a heater which, as shown in Fig. 2, may be attached in an inclined position by a bracket 31 to the upper part of a wall to radiate heat downwardly. It comprises a sheet metal casing the front of which is formed by a radiating panel 14 held between the two parts 15, 16 of a rectangular frame. A tapering firebrick back 20 forms, together with the front panel, a space of upwardly-diminishing cross-section, upon which the gases from burners 25 flow to an outlet 28 in the top of the casing, over which is a deflector plate 30. The radiating panel 14 may be made of vitreous enamelled sheet iron. Fig. 3 shows a radiator in which the gases from jets 41 flow up the space between part-spheroidal bowls 35, 36 to outlets 37 round the upper edge of the inner bowl. The inner bowl is of greater radius than the outer, so that the space between them is of upwardlydiminishing cross-section. The centre of the inner bowl is formed by a firebrick disc 38 through which the gas pipe 39 extends and at the centre of the outer bowl is provided an air inlet grid 43 secured to a screwed stem on the burner. Discs 48 and 49 extending across the inner bowl from between them an air jacket, or the intervening space may be lined with heat insulating material. Between the disc 48 and an upper disc 51 is formed a flue box, into which the gases pass from the apertures 37, and which they leave by a flue spigot 52. A reflector 53 extends above the heater. The apparatus may be suspended by the gas pipe 39 or from a frame attached to the upper edges of the bowls. A modification of this form of heater is described, which is of elongated shape in plan, and heated by jets on a burner tube extending lengthwise of it.
