Cooking-stoves; baffles.- A hot-plate for use with gas or cil stoves or a gas ring or like burner embodies means for distributing or concentrating the heat from the burners under one or more sections of the hot-plate. The apparatus comprises a top-plate 10 with the usual pot-holes 14 and holes 16 for the escape of combustion products; depending walls 11 with air holes 15, and one or more deflector plates 17, 26, shown in Fig. 2, which represents the hot-plate inverted. The deflector plates which are pierced with air-holes 27, partition the space below the hot-plate into a number of chambers which may be individually or collectively heated. They may be pivoted along the edge and angularly adjustable by an external handle provided with locking means, being set vertically to separate the hot-plate into sections, inclined to direct the gases to a particular section, or flat against the lower side of the hot-plate when the whole area of the latter is to be used. Inclined baffles 13 are attached as shown to the walls 11. The hot-plate may be slidably held in guides 30 in a frame which engages the top of a gas stove by a second set of guides 29, enabling the hot plate to be adjusted over the burners in either direction. A stand is described for supporting the hot-plate over a gas ring &c. A similar hot-plate adapted for use with an oil-stove is also described, one portion being perforated with a number of holes over which an oven may be supported.
