Abstract

2869. Matthewman, W. Feb. 4. Dolls.-Dolls' eyes are arranged to wink and to have a gradual sideways glance by means of one or a system of weights suspended from a fixed portion of the doll. The device may also be used as a mascot on a vehicle or in a ring or pin or as an advertising medium, and may be illuminated. Eyes E, Figs. 1 and 2, are carried on rods E<1> pivoted to a fixed frame P, and are made to glance sideways by rods C pivoted at F and carrying a weight W. The rods C also actuate lids L, L<1> through links L<5>, L<4> engaging arms L<3>, L<2> respectively. For a given movement of the weight, the upper lid is moved further than the lower one, as the link L<4> has a greater movement than the link L<5>. In a modification, Fig. 3, a link E<3> operated by a single weighted rod C moves both eyes in a glancing direction. This system is shown in Fig. 5 where a pivoted weight C<Î> operates unequal arms 0 to give unequal movement to lids L, L<1> as described in Specification 19,905/13. Modifications are described in which one eye is fixed or in which one eye is actuated in an opposite direction to the other by varying the point of attachment of the operating-lever.
