Abstract

19,905. Matthewman, W. Sept. 3. Dolls.-Relates to eyes for dolls, also applicable to toys, rings, or pins, and consists in providing stationary eyes with upper, or upper and lower, counterpoised moving lids, the lids being pivoted on supporting-pins passing through the centres of the eyes from side to side, and the arrangement being such that a slight movement of the doll &c. produces a winking effect on the eye. Means may also be provided for causing one lid to move more than the other. Fig. 3 shows a fixed eye with counterpoised lids L, L<1>, the eye being out away at E<2> to permit a greater movement of the upper lid. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 7 and 8, one lid is counterweighted and operates the other through a forked member A pivoted below the axis E<1> of the eye, the member being so bent that a large movement of one lid transmits a small movement to the other. In another arrangement, Fig. 5, the lids are coupled together and operated through link-work by a swinging weight W<2>, the linkwork being arranged to convey unequal movements to the lids.
