[Addition to 14,912/11.] Radiations, effecting chemical reactions by.- When using the apparatus described in the parent Specification for sterilizing large quantities of liquids, the top and bottom plates 2, 3 of the cylindrical vessel 1 are shaped as truncated cones, arranged so that no shadows are cast by the source of ultra-violet rays. The liquid is as usual set in rapid rotation by entry through tangential passages 4, and the source of rays 8 is lowered through the aperture 11 into the cavity formed by the motion of the liquid. The liquid flows away through the aperture 6, so that the rays have their maximum effect as it leaves the apparatus.
