Abstract

6951. Jefcoate, H. J. March 20. Track apparatus actuating signals on trains and for stopping trains.-The brakes and signals are operated by a flexible wire actuated by a striker or plunger, which may be similar to that described in Specification 2109/02, connected through springs 12, 14 so as to permit only a partial application of the brakes, which are able to be further controlled by the driver. The flexible wire 5 is fixed to an eye 7, and is actuated by a roller 6 on the plunger 2. The upper part of the wire which is connected to the brake valve or signals, is provided with a stop 12<a> to engage a fixed stop 12<b>, thus ensuring a definite movement of the brake valve or signals while the spring 12 permits a longer movement of the lower part of the wire. The spring 14 allows operation of the brake handle 10 by the driver to re-set the valve against the action of the spring when the stop 15 meets the stop 13, but is strong enough to actuate the valve to apply the brakes.
