Abstract

21,295. Bauer, C., [Osoling, A. A., and Mietens, O.]. Oct. 19. Locomotives.-Relates to devices for stopping trains from the track in which an air-brake operating-lever depends from the engine and engages a track contact, which may be controlled in conjunction with the usual signals or may be portable and independent of the signals. Figs. 7 and 8 show the brake-operating lever B' and the stopvalve mechanism carried by the engine. The cylinder A contains two flat disks b, b<1>, Figs. 10 and 11, with sector-shaped apertures s, s<1>, pressed together by the spring f. The diek b<1> is fixed, but the disk b is mounted on the same spindle as the sector-shaped piece B, rigidly connected with the depending lever B<1>. The sector B is normally kept in place by the T-shaped piece C, and is provided with notches o, o' in one of which a pawl a engages. When the lever B<1> strikes the contactbar of the track apparatus, the sector B is moved round so as to bring the apertures s, s<1> in the disks b, b<1> into conjunction and thereby to apply the air brakes. The brakes may be taken off by releasing the pawl a by a cord from the driver's cab, thus allowing the sector B to return to its normal position.
