Abstract

22,718. Hoey, J. J. Sept. 30. Stretching. - The sprockets driving the endless chains of tentering-machines are driven at a uniform speed by telescopic shafts with universal joints, and the chain rails are reciprocated by gear fitted with a clutch. The shaft L is driven by a belt and is geared with a shaft M, which is geared to two vertical shafts S by worm or bevel gearing. Each shaft S is connected by two universal joints t, x and a telescopic shaft to the sprocket b, which drives the stentering- chains. The rails B are reciprocated by links 16, 14 which are driven from a disk 11. The disk 11 is driven by a worm 8 which is connected to a shaft 4 by a key. The shaft 4 may be moved to disengage the bevelwheel carried by it from the wheel 2, to throw the reciprocating mechanism out of gear.
