14,307. Lord, W. T. June 16. Variable speed chain and friction gearing comprises two or more pairs of combined chain and friction gears adapted to drive a friction wheel alternatively. One pair of like chainwheels F secured to friction gears D and another pair of chain-wheels G secured to friction gears E are supported in an articulated frame A, C, A', C' supported on a fixed member B. An endless chain H passes over all these chain-wheels and over a driving chain - wheel K. When the articulated frame is rocked one way or the other by a handle L, either the pair of gears D or the pair E are brought into driving-engagement with an internal friction wheel M, which is driven. The gear is applicable upon motorvehicles.
