6377. Raum, J. H., and Curr, J. March 17. Compasses; trammels.-A bench hook is provided with means for adapting it for use as a marking - gauge, trammel, or compass, and measuring-rule. The hook consists of a pair of graduated bars 1, 2 dovetailed to engage with, and slide on, one another and carrying fixed blocks 8, 9 respectively. The dovetail parts are formed on metal strips secured to the bars. The block 8 projects below the faces of the two bars 1, 2, so as to form an abutment against the end of the work bench, and the block 9 projects above so as to provide a rest for the work. The bars may be locked together frictionally in any adjusted position by screws 11, 13 passing through the blocks and one of the bars respectively. In order to adapt the device for use as a compass, trammel, or marker, the block 9 is provided with a point 16 and the block 8 with a socket 18 for a pencil.
