Abstract

921. Sutton, L. H. Jan. 14. Tea leaf is rolled upon a travelling table A, consisting of wooden or metal battens joined to endless chains, by a casing D which is given a circular motion by cranks E. The casing contains spring- .pressed plungers, which may be perforated, fluted, &c., and are adjusted by means of screws or levers G. The lever is fed from a hopper R to a space between the plungers and casing D, or it may be spread on the travelling table and carried forward. The cranks E are rotated by bevel - gearing K, and the table A is driven through spur gearing P. Q by a belt N passing over cone-pulleys J or an idle pulley, so that the table can be driven continuously or intermittently and at a speed adjustable with regard to that of the cranks E, the belt N being shifted by a fork with a screw or lever adjustment. Means for cooling the leaf by cold air or water during rolling may be provided.
