Abstract

17,683. Wedgwood, H. B. July 30. Variable-speed belt gearing of the expanding- pulley type specially adapted for motor-cycles comprises means for operating the two pulleys simultaneously consisting of a slidable cantilever bracket D to which one operating-fork E is adjustably pivoted to allow the belt H to be kept in proper tension. Pulley flanges B, B<1> are secured to the driving and driven shafts A, A', respectively, and the speed is varied by moving simultaneously flanges C, C' which slide on the bosses of the flanges B, B<1>. The pivoted fork E acts on the flange C, and is adjusted relatively to the bracket D by a screw F. A fork E<1>, which operates the flange C', may be fastened to the other arm of the bracket D in such a way that it is adjustable as to its length. The bracket D is secured to a rod I upon which then screws a sleeve J supported in brackets K, K<1> of the cycle frame. A gear L, secured to the sleeve J, provides means for shifting the bracket D.
